RALEIGH, N.C. — Mark Ballas has taught numerous celebrities how to Tango, Waltz and Cha Cha on “Dancing with the Stars.” Now, he’s showing off his own moves in the legendary stage show “Burn the Floor” at Raleigh's Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

Twenty four dancers perform more than two dozen routines during the show, which runs Tuesday through Dec. 5.

“It’s a show with great energy,” Ballas said.

Ballas, who has been dancing since he was a child, said he has learned from his mother and father who are champion dancers and have performed all over the world.

On “Dancing with the Stars,” Ballas worked with Bristol Palin, Kristi Yamaguchi, Kim Kardashian, Shawn Johnson, Shannon Doherty and others. Palin, his most recent dancing partner, was “lovely to train,” he said.

“I had a lot of fun with her. She’s actually one of my proudest moments, because she’s not from a background of entertainment, acting, music, anything like that,” Ballas said.

The duo practiced at least eight hours a day and about 11 hours on the day of the telecast.

“(Palin) had never danced a step in her life, never been to prom, never been to a dance class, like nothing,” he said.

Ballas and Palin came in third place on the show.

“The first day she couldn’t walk in heels. She was like wobbling all over the place and couldn't really count music, but by the end she'd try anything … she had really come a long way,” Ballas said.
