RALEIGH, N.C. — The scheduled outdoor performances of the musical "Rent" on July 2 and 3 have been moved from the new Raleigh amphitheater to the indoor Fletcher Opera Theater, on the east side of Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts.

The costs of moving the musical's sets from one location to another made the outdoor performance a non-starter, said Jim Lavery, general manager of the Progress Energy Center.

“Production at the downtown amphitheater is still new for all of us and both venues have very different requirements to pull off the production to the expectations of our patrons. After further evaluation we decided it was in the best interest of this particular production to move the entire run inside,” he said.

The Fletcher Opera Theater seats 600.

Patrons who purchased tickets to the outdoor performance will be accommodated, or they can seek a refund from the box office.

"Rent" is scheduled to run at the Progress Energy Center July 1-3, 8-10 and 15-17. Tickets are still available.
