FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Hollywood and the military met each other when the latest movie based on a Nicholas Sparks' novel opened this weekend at Fort Bragg.

The movie "Dear John" opened Saturday at York Theater on the Army post. The movie is about a Special Forces solider and a college student from Wilmington and stars Channing Tatum of "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" and Amanda Seyfried of the television series "Big Love." They keep their relationship alive through years of letter-writing.

The two stars and Sparks, who lives near New Bern, attended the premiere.

Free tickets were distributed last week to military ID holders, but only the first 600 people in line with tickets were admitted inside.

The film opens nationwide Feb. 5. It was filmed in Charleston, S.C.
