Security was heightened at SouthWest Edgecombe High School Friday after school officials got wind of a rumored shooting threat.

<b>PINETOPS, N.C.</b> — Security was heightened at SouthWest Edgecombe High School on Friday after school officials said they heard rumors of a shooting threat.

As a precaution, deputies walked every student though metal detectors, which is not typically done at the school.

Extra deputies were brought in and were expected to remain on campus throughout the day. Additional school administrators were also at the school.

No weapons were found, and there were no plans to cancel any classes or release students early. School officials said they planned to send an alert message to all parents advising them of the situation.
