DURHAM, N.C. — The Durham County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to be on the lookout for a person who is allegedly impersonating a law enforcement officer.

Deputies responded to a robbery call Tuesday night after a woman reported being held at gunpoint in her car.

The woman was driving north on Big Horn Road near Guess Road when a dark-colored SUV with a single blue light stopped her car, authorities said.

An unidentified man approached her vehicle, holding what the woman said appeared to be a rifle. The man stole her purse and fled the area via Guess Road. The woman was unharmed, authorities said.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the Durham County Sheriff's Office at 919-560-0900 or Durham Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.

The sheriff's office said drivers who are approached by unmarked vehicles with blue flashing lights can call 911 and provide their location to confirm the vehicle behind them is a law enforcement vehicle.
