DURHAM, N.C. — Durham police asked for the public's help on Monday to solve a 2009 shooting that later led to a man's death.

Jose Luis Gonzalez, 49, was shot in the parking lot of the Charlestown Apartments complex, in the 2800 block of Ross Road, on April 27, 2009. He was treated at a Duke University Hospital and later released.

Investigators were never able to file charges in the case.

Gonzalez' condition later deteriorated, and he died in October 2010. An autopsy determined that his death was linked to the shooting, and Durham police said investigators were recently notified that shooting case had become a homicide investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police at 919-560-4440, extension 29322, or Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200.
