Durham police make 184 arrests in roundup

Posted June 24, 2011

— Durham police officers served nearly 400 warrants during a two-day, city-wide roundup this week to search for the more than 1,400 people wanted for crimes in the city.

Police said they arrested 184 people and served them with arrest warrants for 111 felonies and 275 misdemeanors.

Police published the list of names of suspects in the Durham Herald-Sun and had teams of officers looking for those people Tuesday and Wednesday.

"my question is why do they have 400 to be served?

I could see 50 or so.

seems like they are not doing there job effectivley."

Because their primary job function is to generate revenue to try to justify their own existance. They don't have enough time between pulling over the soccer moms in mini vans to go after the bad guys.

"The arrests of 184 people cleared up 385 warrants. Not a bad days work."

I agree...now it's time for the courts to set them all free again. Half of them are probably out already.

Correct. Most people know they have a warrant. That means the police are looking for you. They already knew this.

Correct! And some of these people had jobs as well. I understand that some of these turned themselves in, although not many, who didn't want the to take the risk of being arrested on the job. This was from a LEO in Durham. The arrests of 184 people cleared up 385 warrants. Not a bad days work.

I think the Durham Police does do their job, and do it very well. Personally, I feel that the State should start crowding the prisons instead of the classrooms. Start making the person serve at least 75-80% of a sentence rather than 30-40% of some crimes. 99% percent of the prison population has only themselves to blame for being where they are.

There may be some LEOs that are slacking...but you have to remember, Durham is a decent sized city and there are not enough LEOs to go around all the time. If you would like to have more patrols, tell city hall to raise your taxes. See how much you complaint then!

I've lived in various parts of Durham for 13 years. It isn't as bad as its reputation. I definitely have never been afraid to go out at night, geez. Some people.
