— A man was killed Saturday in a shooting at Lyon Park in Durham, according to police.

Officers responding to reports of gunshots on Lakewood Avenue just after 3 p.m. found Quaysean Tymeek Malachi, 20, of High Point, injured from a gunshot wound.

Malachi was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later, Durham police said. A second man was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

John Edgerton, who lives near Lyon Park, said he heard multiple gunshots.

"I heard what sounded like a bunch of firecrackers," he said. "I counted at least six, but there could have been more. It happened really, really quickly."

Despite the shooting, Edgerton said his neighborhood is a safe one.

"The neighborhood has been very good and very safe," he said. "We have not had problems, but we do hear gunshots occasionally at night."

Edgerton said when he arrived at the shooting scene he saw police focusing a lot of activity by a car with its doors open. He said it also looked like officers were searching for something inside the park.

No charges have been filed.

Anyone with information is asked to call Durham Crime Stoppers at 919-683-1200. Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to arrests in felony cases and callers never have to identify themselves.

I used to live in Lanham for a year.

Anyway, yes, lets_b_real is correct--violent crime has been on the decline for many years now. Here's what google dug up:

Hopefully you can find comfort in knowing that the media makes it seem like the majority of things going on are bad. That's the media's job, know that the majority of people are good.

Every time you get on the internet, or turn the TV on, there is a shooting, a stabbing, or a killing resulting from one of the previous. What is a matter with people. Saturday evening around 7 p.m. in Lanham, Maryland outside of D.C., a postal worker was still delivering the mail and, he was shot and killed while on the job. The Postal Service has offered a $100 thousand dollar reward! I just don't understand why people are doing this! Are we all savage animals?
