— Police have arrested a Mebane man charged with robbing an elderly man at gunpoint last week on Guess Road.

Jeremy Tjaz Cartwright-Sykes, 20, of Oakland Drive, was arrested on Wednesday on White Oak Farm Road in Cedar Grove as the result of a CrimeStoppers tip, police said.

Cartwright-Sykes, charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon. was being held Wednesday under a $75,000 at the Durham County Jail.

An 80-year-old man told officers he was taking a television set into his home on Guess Road on April 4 when a man entered his home, walked up behind him and stuck a gun in his back.

Police said the man took the victim’s car keys, tied the victim up and then forced him into a closet. The man pushed furniture against the closed closet door before fleeing in the victim’s green 1995 Ford Escort. Police have not said if the vehicle has been recovered.

The victim was able to get out of the closet and called 911.

Another one who didn't learn his lesson the last time he was in the pokey. Past record includes assault and larceny dating back to 2005. Given this guy's propensity for crime, he's going to hit lifetime felon status soon. And I am sure he was a perfect angel as a teenager. NOT!
