Durham Names Planning Director

Interim Planning Director Steve Medlin has been named director of the Durham City-County Planning Department.

DURHAM, N.C. — Interim Planning Director Steve Medlin has been named director of the Durham City-County Planning Department by City Manager Patrick Baker and County Manager Mike Ruffin.

He succeeds Frank Duke, who resigned in August 2007 for a position in Norfolk, Va.

Medlin has managed the department’s operations as the interim director since September 2007.

He has more than 20 years of service in the department having worked his way up the ranks from an associate planner progressing to his current position.

Prior to coming to Durham, Medlin worked with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Census Bureau. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning from East Carolina University.

His annual salary will be $114,000, officials said.
