Durham man dies after shots fired into home

Durham Police Department

— An 18-year-old man died Monday after after shots were fired into his home in the 600 block of Lee Street on Sunday night, Durham police said.

Police said the shooting happened about 9:45 p.m., and the bullets were fired from outside the home. The victim, identified as Rakwon Smith, was taken to a nearby hospital.

No charges have been filed, and police are now investigating the case as a homicide.

    Police don't prevent crimes. They intercede when they can but mostly write reports and investigate them. Only people in the criminal justice system that can prevent crime are judges by handing down long sentences to violent repeat offenders.

    It's not supposed to "mean" anything. This is only another statement that Hans made, to get folks to have some kind of response. He is slipping though. Usually, his first comment is focused on passing new gun laws, that even he knows will never help curb the gun violence.

    No, this really isn't the same area.. The other shooting apparently occurred at Wabash & Ridgeway. This one occurred at Lee St. They're over 2 miles away.


    They are both "east Durham". They are both off of Alston Ave and the demographics of both areas are the same. "East Durham", for those that know Durham well, is a very large area.
