DURHAM, N.C. — A Durham County deputy suffered minor injuries Tuesday morning when he wrecked his patrol car while trying to avoid a head-on collision with another vehicle.

The sheriff’s office said Deputy Kenneth Baker, 34, was taken to Duke University Hospital as a precaution.

The accident happened shortly before 9 a.m. on Red Mountain Road near Hampton Road.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol said Leslie Roberts, 40, of Bahama, crossed the center line and that Baker drove on the right shoulder of the road to avoid a collision. Baker then over-corrected and drove off the left side of the road, where his car overturned on an embankment, troopers said.

No charges have been filed in the crash.
