Durham businessman pleads guilty to tax fraud
A Durham businessman pleaded guilty Tuesday to charges of tax fraud filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Tyrone Tyree Irby, 45, of 5150 Revere Road, pleaded guilty to six counts of willful failure to file return, supply information or pay tax.
Revenue department investigators said that Irby didn't file returns and pay taxes from 2004 to 2009. During that time, he owned Choice Personal Fitness and Up in Smoke Catering and worked as a strength and training coach at North Carolina Central University.
Wake County District Judge Anne Salisbury gave Irby a 45-day jail sentence but suspended it to 12 months of supervised probation. He might be put on unsupervised probation if files the missing returns and pays the taxes.
Irby was also ordered to pay $4,825 in restitution, a $200 fine and court costs.
