Durham budget holds taxes but raises new garbage fee

The $376.5 million budget, which takes effect July 1, does not raise property taxes. The tax rate will remain at 56.75 cents per $100 of assessed value.

The budget is about $3.4 million more than the current year and includes funding for three new positions in the police department’s forensics unit, officials said.

In addition to the new solid waste fee, residents will pay $10 more a month for parking lots and decks and $1 more for special event parking. Council approved water, sewer and stormwater rate increases in May.
