A fire at a Durham apartment complex around midnight Saturday left eight families homeless, firefighters said.

DURHAM, N.C. — A fire at a Durham apartment complex around midnight Saturday left eight families homeless, firefighters said.

Flames were shooting through the roof of the two-story apartment building at 4404 Emerald Forest Drive, off N.C. Highway 54, when crews arrived.

Firefighters helped all the residents get out of the building safely. No one was injured.

The fire heavily damaged four apartments, firefighters said. The cause of the blaze hasn't been determined.
