Dunn newspaper founder dies at 92
Hoover Adams, the founder of a 62-year-old Dunn newspaper and longtime friend of the late Sen. Jesse Helms, died Sunday at the age of 92.

Adams founded The Daily Record in 1950 and remained its publisher until recent years when his son, Bart Adams, took over. He made a career of chronicling small-town life in Harnett County.
"Hoover was a remarkable citizen and newsman who put the focus on local issues and local people in the community that meant so much to him," U.S. Sen. Richard Burr said in a statement Monday. "Hoover will be missed, but his legacy and contributions to his community and his state will not be forgotten."
Adams was also the longtime friend of late conservative icon and former North Carolina senator Jesse Helms, whom he met in 1968 when they were both working as journalists.
Adams later joined Helms on the campaign trail. Together, they met former United Kingdom Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher and traveled to South Africa.
He died in a Benson nursing home.
A funeral service is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gospel Tabernacle in Dunn.
