Duke utility crews head to Midwest

Duke Energy on Monday began deploying crews from North and South Carolina to the Midwest to help restore electricity to customers in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Duke Energy on Monday began deploying crews from North and South Carolina to the Midwest to help restore electricity to customers in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky.

The remnants of Hurricane Ike tore through the region late Sunday, leaving almost 1 million Duke Energy customers without power  – 700,000 in Ohio and almost 300,000 in Indiana and Kentucky.

About 600 Duke Energy employees and contractors, including line technicians, scouts, tree trimming crews, mechanics and other support staff, were traveling to the Midwest to assist crews already at work.
