Duke University VP to step down after 17 years of working with students
Larry Moneta will retire at the end of the next school year after serving as the vice president for student affairs at Duke University since 2001.

“Larry has turned Duke into a national leader in nearly every aspect of student life,” said President Vincent E. Price. “We have all benefited from Larry’s wisdom, boundless energy, commitment to diversity and inclusion, deep compassion and concern for the success of our students. He’s been a key advocate for Duke who also brings comfort and support to our community in the most difficult of situations."
Moneta told Duke officials that, in the position, new goals were always being added.
"I’m so very proud of what we have accomplished together to make the student experience at Duke so fulfilling and transformative," said Moneta. "After 45 years of working on a college campus, though, my list of unfinished projects remains as long today as when I started.”
As vice president for student affairs, Moneta oversees services and programs that support students and university life, including housing, dining, health and wellness, career services and more.
According to Price, a national search for Moneta’s successor will begin in the fall.
