DURHAM, N.C. — Duke University announced Tuesday morning a five-year agreement with the National University of Singapore to expand its medical school.

It’s the second phase of a partnership between the two schools that started in 2005 with the Duke-NUS Graduate Medical School.

The first class of nearly 30 students arrived three years ago, and since then, Duke-NUS has more than doubled in enrollment, drawing top students and faculty from around the world.

The first class of medical doctors will graduate next year.

Leaders at both schools say the venture will strengthen Duke’s contribution as a research and educational partner, and it will also position Singapore as a global hub of biomedical expertise.
