— Deputies in New Hanover County arrested two people on drug charges Tuesday after a two-week investigation, Capt. David Ciamillo said.

Authorities first found cocaine in the car of Humberto Cortez Diaz, 40, and Enriqueta Aragon Sosa, 39, both of 506 Purdue Drive, during a traffic stop.

When they searched the couple's home, they found an additional 18 ounces of cocaine, including some hidden inside a boot and inside a stuffed toy rabbit, Ciamillo said.

A detective squeezed the toy, noticed it did not feel right and cut it open to find bags of cocaine wrapped in foil, Ciamillo said.

Both were being held at the New Hanover County jail Thursday under $850,000 secured bond. They face charges of possession, trafficking, and maintaining a dwelling for drugs. Diaz is also charged with driving without a license.

County authorities have also asked U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to investigate whether the suspects are in the country illegally.

They are going to "investigate" whether this couple is here illegally? (howls of hysterical laughter) And he was charged with driving without a license? Any thoughts on who dropped the ball on finding out where over A POUND of coke came from? Or how it got to Wilmington, undetected? Reason gazillion and seven why we need a branch of the Border Patrol in N.C.

I agree160lilsis, and there is no prison that shouldn't get all the things they get, and the thing that gets me is my tax money goes to that. You are telling the truth.

Another thing is that I didn't just say a race, that is any race.

I agree with the illegal immigrant prison. Afterall, if they aren't a citizen they aren't protected by the constitution. Build them a prison like the ones they have back home and not these oversized dorms for criminals like we have here in America! Then maybe they'll stay home and commit their crimes.

They need to make a prison just for the Illegal Immigrants. I am so sick of them coming over here committing Crimes & then they send them back, then they come back again illegally. I am tired of it.
