Driver rushed to hospital after single-vehicle crash

The driver of a vehicle that ended up crashing and flipped upside down was rushed to an area hospital on Wednesday.

FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. — The driver of a vehicle that ended up crashing and flipped upside down was rushed to an area hospital on Wednesday.

The crash happened on N.C. Highway 55 East near Fuquay-Varina. Troopers with the N.C. Highway Patrol said the driver was speeding down the road when his vehicle went airborne, hit a guide wire and flipped upside down onto Clayton Road.

The man had life-threatening injuries. It was unclear why he ran off the road but speed was a factor.

No further details were available as the investigation into the crash continued Wednesday night.
