Friday is now a WRAL Weather Alert Day. Parts of Hoke, Cumberland and Sampson counties are under a level 2 risk for storms Friday afternoon and evening. The biggest threat will be damaging winds and heavy rain, but an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out in our southern counties. The storms are expected to impact these areas from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Authorities said a van with seven people inside overturned on Tarheel Road near N.C. Highway 50 just outside of Benson at about 5 p.m.

<b>JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C.</b> — Troopers were working to determine Monday night whether speed was a factor after a vehicle overturned in Johnston County.

The driver of the van was pinned inside the vehicle for 45 minutes while firefighters worked to extricate him, authorities said. The driver was transported to WakeMed for treatment.

The six passengers in the van were treated for less severe injuries.
