Driver dies in Fayetteville after car hits pole, catches fire

One person was killed Sunday morning when a car hit a utility pole and caught on fire on Morganton Road near Bonanza Drive in Fayetteville, police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — One person was killed Sunday morning when a car hit a utility pole and caught on fire on Morganton Road near Bonanza Drive in Fayetteville, police said. 

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the car, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash.

The crash caused some power outages in the area, police said. Morganton Road was closed from Longbranch Drive to Bonanza Drive for several hours while authorities were at the scene.

The driver's name was not released.
