Driver charged in Atlantic Beach wreck that killed Raleigh woman

Atlantic Beach, N.C. — Police on Monday charged the driver of a tractor-trailer in an Atlantic Beach crash that killed a Raleigh woman last month.

Investigators said Sue Johnson Cross was crossing Fort Macon Road at West Drive on Nov. 9 when she was hit by a tractor-trailer that was turning at the intersection. Cross died at the hospital.

Michael Sharron Bowden, of Clinton, has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle. He was driving a truck owned by Valley Proteins Inc. of Winchester, Va.

So sorry for both families. I know the Cross family has had a difficult time dealing with this death, and my heart goes out to them. I'm sure the truck driver has been devastated as well. I'm certain he just didn't see her. Has there been anything showing that he was impaired? I haven't seen anything.
