RALEIGH, N.C. — The 5,000-seat amphitheater in downtown Raleigh is slated to open in early June, when the pop group Backstreet Boys headlines the inaugural concert, officials said Tuesday.

Raleigh officials signed a deal Tuesday with concert promoter LiveNation to bring 15 to 20 events each year to the amphitheater. In addition to the June 6 concert by the Backstreet Boys, four other shows have already been booked for the venue, officials said.

Tickets are already available for a July 23 concert by the pop rock band, Paramore and an Aug. 10 concert by the rock group O.A.R. Tickets for an Aug. 25 concert by electronic music group STS9 will go on sale Wednesday, and Backstreet Boys tickets go on sale Friday.

A concert date by classic rockers Heart hasn't been set, although officials said the group has confirmed it will play at the amphitheater.

The city-owned amphitheater, which is located across McDowell Street from the Raleigh Convention Center, will also host local events. Officials said they expect the venue to turn a $500,000 annual profit and add to the downtown entertainment scene.
