FOUR OAKS, N.C. — Animal Control officers are investigating a dog attack on a child in Johnston County on Saturday afternoon.

An English bull dog bit a child on Mullberry Road near Four Oaks, officials said. The dog belonged to the child's family, said Ernie Wilkinson, director of Johnston County Animal Services.

Authorities received calls about the attack around 2:15 p.m.

The child was taken to Johnston Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to another hospital, officials said.

The child's condition, name, age and gender were not released at the family's request.

Animal Control officers seized and quarantined the dog. Quarantining animals after such incidents is standard procedure, Wilkinson said.

The dog was up to date on all its shots and vaccinations, Wilkinson said.

Animal Control is continuing to investigate the incident. No charges have been filed yet.
