Dog saves boy from Johnston house fire
The family dog saved a 13-year-old boy who was home alone Saturday when a fire erupted in the garage and then spread to fully engulf his house in Johnston County.
Posted — UpdatedFire crews were called out to battle the blaze at the two-story home at 590 Black Angus Drive shortly before 2 p.m., authorities said. The address has a Garner zip code but is in Johnston County.
A 13-year-old boy and a dog were inside the home when the fire broke out. The dog alerted the boy of the fire, and they both got out without being injured, officials said.
The house was destroyed. The family of four is staying with neighbors, authorities said, and the Red Cross has been notified if they need more help.
Sabrina Clark, who wasn't home during the fire, said she's trying to hold it together for her little brother.
"It's just an awe kind of a thing. You don't know how to react. You want to cry," Clark said. "If you cry and you’re hysterical, then everybody around you is going to be. And I have a younger brother, so I kind of can’t do that."
Cleveland Fire Chief Chris Ellington said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
He said there have been three fires in the past month on Black Angus Drive.
