DNA leads to arrest in 2006 Fayetteville sex assault

A convicted sex offender was charged Monday in 9-year-old Fayetteville sex assault case, police said.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A convicted sex offender was charged Monday in 9-year-old Fayetteville sex assault case, police said.

Anthony Jerome Lindsey, 49, was charged with second-degree rape in the Nov. 6, 2006, incident involving an 18 year old.

The Fayetteville Police Department's Cold Case Sexual Assault Unit obtained DNA evidence linking Lindsey to the crime, police said.

Lindsey is serving a prison sentence for failure to report a change of address as a sex offender. He was convicted of indecent liberties with a minor in the mid-1990s.
