As part of our Disney Week coverage, we're sharing tips and memories from some WRAL-TV reporters and anchors. Today, we hear from Amanda Lamb, who also wrote about her trip several years ago.

I dreaded it, the Disney trip. I’ve never been much for crowds, or lines, or cartoon characters, but our kids begged us to go. And so we did go in January 2011.

Despite the rigmarole required to make it all happen, once we were there it all melted away. Our kids were excited, starry-eyed and adventurous.

My best memory is in the car on the way home when I looked back and saw that my youngest had fallen asleep in her car seat in her Minnie Mouse dress and ears. That said it all to me about what the experience had meant to all of us: Pure magic.

Amanda is the mom of two, reporter for WRAL-TV and the author of several books including some on motherhood.
