Discovery of blasting cap closes Cary road

Police closed a one-block stretch of a Cary street on Monday morning after at least one blasting cap was found in a yard.

CARY, N.C. — Police closed a one-block stretch of a Cary street on Monday morning after a blasting cap was found in a yard.

Del Webb Avenue was closed between Dowington Lane and Hennigan Drive.

A resident doing landscaping work found the blasting cap at 104 Dowington Lane shortly before 11 a.m., police said. Several nearby home were evacuated, but no injuries were reported.

The Raleigh Police Department's bomb squad was called in to dispose of the device, which is used to detonate explosives.
