Deputies: Fayetteville man strikes patrol car, school bus while fleeing authorities
An 18-year-old who fled while deputies were taking him into custody Tuesday morning was captured after several 911 calls from Fayetteville residents.
Posted — UpdatedA 911 caller reported man matching the description of Brandon Ponder was seen taking a white Ford pickup truck from 206 Rodie Avenue.
Deputies spotted the car on Ireland Drive and attempted to stop it, but Ponder accelerated toward Cumberland Road, running other drivers off the road as he fled.
Deputies said Ponder then lost control of the truck and struck a Subaru Forester, pushing it into a Honda CRV, before striking a deputy’s patrol car and a school bus.
Ponder was taken to Cumberland County Jail on his original charge of failure to appear in court on a breaking and entering charge from Fayetteville police and will face further charges of felony larceny of a motor vehicle and felony speeding to elude.
He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.
