CLAYTON, N.C. — A Johnston County man threw boiling water on his wife during an argument last Friday, according to the Johnston County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said that Orlando Stewart Crank, 47, then beat his wife with a metal baseball bat, flowerpot and vase at their Primrose Lane house, outside Clayton. She was treated at WakeMed in Raleigh for second-degree burns, lacerations and bruises and received seven staples for one cut.

Crank faces three assault charges. He was placed in the Johnston County jail and denied bond.

Crank was on probation for a July 2011 larceny conviction and has spent more than 15 of the past 25 years behind bars, including one 10-year stint for a habitual felon conviction, according to state Division of Correction records.

His criminal records includes 29 convictions dating to 1986, mostly on break-in and theft charges.
