Damaged sign causes delays on I-540
RALEIGH, N.C. — A damaged sign caused major delays on Interstate 540 between Honeycutt and Six Forks roads Thursday morning.

Authorities closed the two right lanes of I-540 East after a dump truck ran into a support pole holding up a digital message sign.

The contractor's truck was being used for the I-540 pavement preservation project that started this week on the westbound lanes, according to the state Department of Transportation.

All westbound lanes were open but were backed up due to onlooker delays. The lane closures were expected to remain in place until about 12:30 p.m.
