Cumberland County charges reduced against Ala. man

An Alabama man saw charges of statutory rape, taking indecent liberties with a minor and crimes against nature reduced to a single misdemeanor, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — An Alabama man saw charges of statutory rape, taking indecent liberties with a minor and crimes against nature reduced to a single misdemeanor, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office.

A DNA analysis by the State Bureau of Investigation showed no sign of the alleged victim's DNA on items collected from the home of the accused, Venson Leon Griffin.

Griffin pleaded guilty to a single count of misdemeanor assault on a female.​ He was given credit for time served.
