Cumberland County Animal Control needs volunteers to foster rescued puppies before they can be taken to a no-kill shelter in New York.

<b>FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.</b> — Cumberland County Animal Control needs volunteers to foster rescued puppies before they can be taken to a no-kill shelter in New York.

The dogs must be placed in foster homes to comply with the North Shore Animal League's requirement that animals spend two weeks in quarantine outside a county animal shelter before coming to the no-kill facility.

Cumberland, Moore and Scotland counties have teamed up to regularly send groups of rescued puppies to the North Shore Animal League, which requires a minimum of 35 puppies for transport. 

Anyone interested in fostering a puppy can call 910-321-6852. Volunteers must be 18 years old and willing to sign a liability waiver. There is an orientation at 2 p.m. on the third Saturday of each month at the animal control shelter, 4707 Corporation Drive in Fayetteville.

Fostering an animal can take a few days to three months, depending on the reason that the animal needs a foster home.
