Sayanna Bragg went to Cruizer 50 on Guess Road to get a Mountain Dew and 12 chicken wings with teriyaki sauce, but decided to purchase a Million Dollar Fever scratch-off ticket when she went to pay for her order.
Bragg took her food to the car, where she began to scratch the ticket.
“When I saw the fire symbol, I knew I won something,” she said. “I was hoping it was at least $10, that way I’d win my money back, or even $100. When I saw what it was, I cried tears of joy. I jumped out of the car and ran back into the store yelling ‘I did it! I hit $1 million.’”
Bragg brought the ticket back inside, where the store clerk confirmed it was a $1 million winner. She then drove straight to the lottery headquarters in Raleigh to claim her prize.
Bragg chose to accept a lump sum payout and took home $423,000 after taxes.
She said she plans to use some of the money to take a trip to Jamaica.
“I’m going to take a long vacation,” she said. “I have family in Jamaica, so I want to go back and see them. This is a day I’ll never forget.”
The Million Dollar Fever ticket launched in August and lottery officials said one ticket with a top prize of $1 million still remains.
