Couple convicted of defrauding 86-year-old

A Louisburg couple has been convicted of defrauding an 86-year-old Creedmoor resident of approximately $120,000, according to Creedmoor police.

CREEDMOOR, N.C. — A Louisburg couple has been convicted of defrauding an 86-year-old Creedmoor resident of approximately $120,000, according to Creedmoor police.

Police said that Aaron Pittman, 56, and Mildred Dew, 58, of 2085 N.C. Highway 39 North in Louisburg, defrauded the victim between 2004 and 2010.

Pittman was convicted of obtaining property by false pretenses in excess of $100,000 and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses. Dew, who also goes by Diane Pittman, was convicted of obtaining property by false pretenses in excess of $20,000 but less than $100,000.

Both suspects were also convicted of exploitation of an elder and three counts of insurance fraud.

Pittman was sentenced to between nearly 10 years and 12½ years in prison, while Dew was sentenced to 13 to 16 months in prison, followed by probation. They were ordered to pay $120,000 in restitution separately.

Creedmoor police and agents with the state Department of Insurance investigated the case, and it was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Cindy Bostic and Tasha Gardner.
