Posted March 4, 2011

— A Louisburg couple has been convicted of defrauding an 86-year-old Creedmoor resident of approximately $120,000, according to Creedmoor police.

Police said that Aaron Pittman, 56, and Mildred Dew, 58, of 2085 N.C. Highway 39 North in Louisburg, defrauded the victim between 2004 and 2010.

Pittman was convicted of obtaining property by false pretenses in excess of $100,000 and conspiracy to obtain property by false pretenses. Dew, who also goes by Diane Pittman, was convicted of obtaining property by false pretenses in excess of $20,000 but less than $100,000.

Both suspects were also convicted of exploitation of an elder and three counts of insurance fraud.

Pittman was sentenced to between nearly 10 years and 12½ years in prison, while Dew was sentenced to 13 to 16 months in prison, followed by probation. They were ordered to pay $120,000 in restitution separately.

Creedmoor police and agents with the state Department of Insurance investigated the case, and it was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Cindy Bostic and Tasha Gardner.

Liberal policies are entirely to blame for the lack of morals/ethics of people today. It's really time to just say no to liberals, or stick them all in a walled city and watch them fall victim to their policies.

Whats wrong with this picture.....The doctor gets 5 years for driving drunk, speeding and killing a young women and this couple gets twice that for stealing money?? Yeah they are lowlifes but is money more valuable then a human life!?

Go Figure - I totally agree with you. And in that same order too, ha. But I'm working on having more compassion for the children than the animals, but there's just not as much help out there for animals as there is people.

How could these people live with themselves cheating an 86 year old???

Another example of the main problem in our country right now. If you would have put all those efforts into GETTING A JOB you would not be showering with a bunch of dudes right now. Servces you right, I hope you rot there and become the biggest prison boy's "B"!

How mean. I have zero tolerance for people who hurt animals, children and the elderly.

The elderly is the most vunerable in our society and we should do all we can to protect them. Unfortunately family and friends are the ones most likely to take advantage of them and treat them bad. I am glad these two will be in jail maybe it will give them sometime to think about what they did.

but, voice, i guess it's about "intent". Cook didn't intend to kill someone, even though he should have known it might happen, but these folks intended to steal from her and worked to hide it. I don't know how that's worse than killing someone but I guess it's supposed to prevent people from having bad thoughts.
