Cost of school lunch may increase at Wake County Schools

It may soon cost 25 cents more to eat breakfast and lunch as school for those who pay full price for the meals. Prices have been the same since 2010 and district officials said the extra quarter will pay for increased labor costs and other expenses.

The board also looked at the cost of school construction over the next six years. The proposed plan would cost nearly $2 billion and includes 27 major projects. A vote on the plan is expected next month.

The school board could also vote to do away with valedictorian and salutatorian graduation honors. Instead, the school would use the Latin system, awarding honors like cum laude and magna cum laude.

District leaders said this will allow schools to recognize more high-achieving students.
