Halifax County Principal of the Year dies after fighting COVID-19

The beloved principal of a Halifax County middle school died after a battling with the coronavirus. Teicher Patterson, principal of Enfield Middle STEM Academy, was in the hospital fighting the virus, according to Halifax County Schools Superintendent Eric Cunningham.

ENFIELD, N.C. — The beloved principal of a Halifax County middle school died after battling the coronavirus.

Teicher Patterson, principal of Enfield Middle STEAM Academy, was in the hospital fighting the coronavirus, according to Halifax County Schools Superintendent Eric Cunningham.

He worked in the school system for 28 years.

"He loved his community and the children he served," Cunningham said Friday. "His last activity was participating in the local community parades to highlight the accomplishments of the 2020 graduates."

Most recently, Patterson was named Halifax County Schools' 2020 Principal of the Year.

"Let us reflect on all the wonderful memories we have of Mr. Patterson. They will now become treasures," Cunningham said in statement. "He will be missed, but his memory will not be forgotten."

A scholarship fund for students at Enfield Middle has been set up in honor of Patterson. Donations will support students attending summer camps, field traps and pay insurance fees for using Chromebooks.
