MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. — The Coast Guard was searching Tuesday for two missing boaters after their vessel was found capsized about 30 miles south of Cape Lookout National Seashore.

The crew of a passing vessel sighted a capsized 31-foot Fountain powerboat shortly before 6 a.m. A man was clinging to the boat's hull, authorities said.

The crew of the passing boat pulled the man from the water and notified the Coast Guard. The man reported that two men were with him aboard, but they weren't in sight when he was rescued. Both were reportedly wearing life jackets.

Authorities said they believe that powerboat departed from Anchorage Marina in Atlantic Beach and then capsized between 8 and 8:30 a.m. Monday.

A helicopter rescue crew from Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point transferred the rescued man, who reportedly suffered from hypothermia, to Onslow Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville for treatment.

A helicopter crew and a rescue plane crew from Coast Guard Air Station Elizabeth City and a rescue boat crew from Station Fort Macon were taking part in the search for the boaters.
