Club Bodi loses liquor license

Since the death of Vernon Oneal Jones, 26, of Lillington, both city and state authorities have taken a closer look at the club, threatening to shut it down.

City Council Member Mary Ann Baldwin asked the city attorney this week to investigate the club's history and to take any appropriate action. "If there is a record of violations, we can move to shut them down," she said.

Lt. Brian Limper, in a report to the ABC, wrote, "I feel continued operation of this business will result in injuries and/or death of patrons, staff and/or law enforcement personnel."

Jones died Sunday being shot in a parking lot about a block from the club. Police said he may have been coming from the club, and, according to the ABC report, shots were fired inside the club before his death.

As of Friday afternoon, police had no suspects in Jones' death.

Bodi, in a message on its Twitter account Sunday evening, said the shooting was unrelated to the business. They responded to the ABC suspension on Twitter as well.

"We will reinstate the week of the 16th of June," the Tweet read. "There is no evidence or proof of any gun shots or act of violence inside the establishment."

Last August, Hany Mousa Shehadeh, 35, of Rocky Mount, was shot in the face, and Keshon Oneil Johnson, 23, of Charlotte, was shot in the wrist outside the club.

Three men who worked for the club were arrested on assault and firearms charges.
