Closing arguments begin in trooper killing trial

Posted October 12, 2010

— Closing arguments began on Tuesday in the trial of a Florida man charged with killing a North Carolina state trooper.

Edwardo Wong Jr. of Ormond Beach, Fla., is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Trooper David Shawn Blanton Jr., who was killed in 2008 during a traffic stop in Canton.

On Tuesday, prosecutors played dash cam video showing Wong firing the gun as Blanton begged for his life.

Wong's attorneys argued that he has some level of brain damage, and didn't have the mental capacity to form the intent to kill Blanton.

The defense is expected to begin their closing arguments on Wednesday morning.

The jury could begin deliberations later this week.

Why is WRAL not giving this trial more coverage? If it were a trooper on trial for something you better believe that it would be the lead story everyday!! Prayers for trooper Blanton's family and may the jury do their job and justice be served to this person who took his life. It doesn't take much mental capacity to know that shooting someone is wrong.

Anyone who shoots someone else intentionally, has some form of brain damage. That's not a defense! Prayers for Michaela & family during this difficult time!
