HALIFAX, N.C. — A man suspected of armed robbery of a Halifax convenience store did not get far Friday before his arrest.

Halifax sheriff's deputies and Roanoke Rapids police joined forces to nab William Robert Clark, 47, of Conway.

According to witnesses, Clark entered the Halifax Exxon on N.C. Highway 903 and demanded money from the cashier. After he left, the cashier called in the theft and described the suspect, his clothes and his direction of travel.

Roanoke Police Officer Chris Woodruff spotted the suspect's car on Aurealian Springs Road and tracked him while he waited for backup.

Arresting officers found the money from the robbery in Clark's car, and the cashier was able to identify him.

Clark was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of stolen goods. He was held on $50,000 bond.
