CLAYTON, N.C. — Clayton police said Friday that tips from residents led to the arrest of a couple accused of running a large marijuana growing operation in their home.

Nathan Jared Sims, 42, and Victoria Kay Ely, 31, are both charged with manufacturing marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for the purpose of manufacturing marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were each held on a $31,000 bond.

Clayton police said they obtained search warrants for the couple’s home at 75 Herndon Court after receiving numerous tips from residents about drug activity there. Police said they seized 60 plants from two rooms that had been converted into “grow rooms” in the home. The plants ranged from small buds to mature plants.

Drug paraphernalia and growing equipment were also seized.
