CLAYTON, N.C. — A Clayton musician proved again that he is among the world's speediest drummers, setting a new world record this summer.

Eric Okamoto set the world record in the double-stroke category at the 2007 World's Fastest Drummer competition.

With 1,600 strokes per minute, he broke his own record for closed double strokes that he set at the competition two years ago.

Okamoto ranks seventh in the single-strokes category worldwide, according to his personal Web site.

The East Carolina University School of Music graduate is a drum teacher in Cary.
