DUNN, N.C. — A 6-year-old child was killed Friday afternoon when the SUV she was riding in collided with a tractor trailer in Harnett County.

The tractor trailer was traveling northbound on Interstate 95, near the Pope Road overpass, when the SUV attempted to pass it, according to the state Highway Patrol.

The driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle and went off the road, striking a guardrail before over correcting, then hitting the tractor trailer and landing upside down, troopers said.

SUV passenger Taryn Greise, 6, of Pennsylvania, was killed, troopers said.

The driver of the SUV, Brandon John Greise Sr., 34, three other adults and two other children were transported to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital in Dunn for treatment for injuries.

The tractor trailer driver was not injured.

The wreck remained under investigation Friday afternoon.
