Chemical lab found inside Fayetteville home

Cumberland County sheriff’s deputies said they received a call about 3:30 p.m. from the homeowner at 7116 Holmfield Road in the Gates Four subdivision.

The homeowner had been renting a room to someone and told deputies he came home to discover chemicals and a lab set up in the room.

"We did talk to the homeowner," Cumberland County spokeswoman Debbie Tanna said. "He says he had no idea anything like this was going on inside. It's definitely a homemade, rigged type operation."

A hazmat crew arrived to find a strong chemical odor in the area. They worked through the late afternoon to determine what type of lab was inside the home and how to best remove it.

"It's not that kind of community," said neighbor Rick Pepper. "We don't have trouble, we don't have crime here. I pulled in and they said they suspected there was a meth lab. I was surprised to hear about it."

No arrests have been made in the ongoing investigation. No other information was released.
