Chatham County officials have implemented Stage 2 mandatory water restrictions for customers in part of the county.

The restrictions apply only to the northeastern part of the county because that area is served by the county's water treatment plant. Other areas get water from other local governments.

Officials said that a moderately dry spring has reduced water levels at Jordan Lake. Although the level is not below normal, the restrictions serve as a measure to conserve water as the demand increases for summer.

Under the Stage 2 restrictions, customers should only use irrigation systems and sprinklers between midnight and 7 a.m.

Customers with odd-number addresses should only irrigate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Those with even-numbered addresses should only water on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.
