BENSON, N.C. — State troopers chased robbery suspects via automobile and foot Tuesday afternoon near Benson, a spokesman for the state Highway Patrol said.

Ray Shawn James, 30, of Cheraw and Jasmine Benard Williams, 20, of Parkton are suspects in a theft from the Lowes on Bright Leaf Boulevard in Smithfield, troopers said. Troopers spotted their Dodge Charger at about 4:40 p.m. near the interchange of Interstate 95 and Interstate 40 and gave chase as it exited the highway.

The suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran on Walden Pond Road, troopers said. James and Williams were apprehended and the search was called off. Another unidentified suspect evaded capture, troopers said.

James and Williams were being held in the Johnston County Jail late Tuesday.
